House Construction

Building the house
used 80 tonnes
 of steel and
200 tonnes
of concrete.
All the material
 had to be transported
 over unmade road
 to the site.

As each level was finished, more concrete had to be poured and the next level was started.

Because of the traditional design of the house in keeping with other residences in the province, the roof had many corners and angles which meant that cutting the roof tiles was extremely time-consuming.

But the finished result was worth all the hard work. The eaves were clad with wood in the local tradition and took two craftsmen over two weeks to complete.

The window frames have been specially constructed in metal finished with a wood effect to compliment the overall look. Because of the location, we were concerned that wooden frames would not last. But the end result was very satisfactory.

Windows and doors were eventually all fitted, together with mosquiton/insect netting.
And we have added wooden balconies in line with local buildings
